The firm was first incorporated in California in July 1996 and later reincorporated in Delaware in June 2000. The company's stock was added to the NASDAQ on July 24, 2003.

A former Marketing communications Mgr claims: ¨I should have said I pass¨ in a review he/she wrote for INDEED about the experience of working for iPass Inc: I was micro-managed by the executives who really didn't have anything better to do that decide on every color and font of every marketing document and web site page. some people would practically get away with murder because they were there from the beginning like the webmaster. She reported to me but was her own boss and decided on when she would show up and what she would work on. What I thought was irrelevant. Escalation to management was useless. Finally just gave up and moved on.

I have been unable to find a WiFi connection and log in on more than a handful of occasions in around six months. I am using the free Google 'Datally' app on my phone which both controls my 3G data usage and suggests local free WiFi hotspots with clear directions on Google Maps. Datally (free) works better than iPass for me."
